Greek art
The exceptional importance which Giovanni Barracco ascribes to the artistic development of Greece and Greek classical art, is documented by the quantity and quality of the works he chose for his collection. Precious original stone works, plaster and ceramics, as well as copies from the Roman era of the sculpture of the most famous of the grand masters of the classical and hellenistic periods, together offer an extremely wide and varied view of this part of the collection. They cover at least four centuries and make up the majority of the objects that Barracco acquired on the roman antiquities market, which, in the second half of the nineteenth century was particularly active due to the numerous excavations across the city.
