The Stele of Nefer
IVth Dynasty (Ancient Regime of Egypt)
Plaster

Fragmentary relief in plaster from the Necropolis of Gizah, donated to the prince Girolamo Bonaparte by Ismail Pasha and acquired in Paris by Barone Barracco.
Nofer, scribe and treasurer of the king, is seated opposite a table of offerings. The stele belongs to the IVth Dynasty (Ancient Regime) and is the oldest document from the civilization to be found in Rome; the hieroglyphs are in relief, as was the practice in the most ancient times.
