Statuette of Sobekhotep
Sculpture
Middle Kingdom (1987-1640 B.C.)
Basalt
This piece belongs to the category of votive statuettes dedicated especially to Osiris of Abydos. Most likely they were ready-made, and the inscription was added when the worshiper made his purchase. The particular interest of this figurine lies in the fact that it was found in the Tiber River; evidently it was imported from Egypt to Rome as a devotional object related to the Isis cult.
