Hourglass of Ptolemy Philadelphus
Basalt

Discovered in many fragments in the area of the Ilseo Campense in Rome. The outside surface has a Ptolemaic inscription, inside are notches for timekeeping. It is thought that this instrument was invented by the Egyptians during the XVIIIth Dynasty.
