Apulian volute krater
Attributed to the Lycurgus Painter, mid-4th century B.C.

The large krater was made in Apulia around the middle of the 4th century B.C. The handles are decorated with two Gorgon faces in relief. In the lively painted decoration of the body, one side shows a lyre-playing Dionysus being crowned by a Nike, and the other side a gymnasium scene.
