Head of a kouros

Original from Magna Graecia, late 6th - early 5th century B.C.
Insular marble

This head, with its refined hairstyle and hollowed-out eyeballs (in which irises made of a different material would have been inserted), comes from the statue of a kouros. It was made in a workshop in Calabria between the late 6th century B.C. and the early 5th.
