Funerary monument and ornaments
Early 5th century B.C.
Fetid limestone

This cippus (marker), from Chiusi, has three parts, one above the other: a base, a hollow central part that contained the deceased’s ashes, and an upper dado topped by an element in the shape of a pinecone. The central and upper parts are decorated with scenes of mourning in very low relief. Pale traces of the original colors can still be seen. The elements of the cippus can be dated to the early 5th century B.C.
